That "$99 whole-house special" is a bait ad - the real number appears once they are in your hallway, or the "clean" is a shop-vac at the register. We photograph the inside of your ducts before and after instead.

Nikro Coil Cleaning: The The Woodlands Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Nikro-compatible coil cleaning systems for residential HVAC units throughout The Woodlands, with typical installed pricing between $340 and $620 depending on coil accessibility and contamination level. Most calls we take are from homeowners who noticed their upstairs vents barely pushing air in July, or who spotted ice forming on their outdoor unit during a routine check. The before photo does the talking. Everything else is just paperwork.

Which Nikro Models This Applies To

Nikro’s coil cleaning equipment breaks into two main residential lines: the portable LV series and the cart-mounted AQD systems. The LV-200 and LV-400 units are what we encounter most often in The Woodlands, particularly in homes built between 2005 and 2018 where builders spec’d mid-grade HVAC packages. The AQD-2000 and AQD-3000 series show up in larger homes east of Gosling Road, where dual-zone systems need higher CFM capacity.

Identifying your unit takes two things: the spec plate on the motor housing (look for a 4-digit model code starting with LV or AQD) and the wand diameter. LV series uses 1.5-inch wands; AQD series uses 2-inch. We see a recurring mismatch where homeowners order LV-compatible foaming heads for an AQD unit, or vice versa. The threads are close but not identical, and forcing the connection strips the collar. We carry both OEM Nikro foaming heads and quality aftermarket equivalents from Guardsman on every truck. Aftermarket saves roughly $40-$60 on parts and carries the same 90-day material warranty, though OEM tends to last longer in the high-alkaline cleaning agents we use for Gulf Coast mold loads.

CleanRun Air Duct Cleaning The Woodlands is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Nikro. We service the equipment because we know it, not because we’re required to.

Signs Your Nikro Coil Cleaning Is Failing

Signs Your Nikro Coil Cleaning Is Failing
  • Weak airflow from registers upstairs. The evaporator coil sits above the air handler, and when Nikro’s chemical application head clogs or the pressure wand loses seal, the cleaning agent distributes unevenly. Residue cakes on the coil fins, restricting air passage. We find this most often in Panther Creek homes where the original 1980s flex duct already strains the blower.
  • Ice formation on the refrigerant lines or outdoor unit. A partially cleaned coil cannot absorb heat properly. The system runs longer, the coil temperature drops below freezing, and condensation ices over. In The Woodlands humidity, this cycle accelerates. The camera usually shows a clean strip down the middle of the coil and packed debris on the edges.
  • Chemical smell lingering after service. Nikro’s foaming agents are designed to break down and drain. If the application wand is atomizing instead of foaming, the chemical saturates the drain pan and evaporates slowly. We check wand orifice size first; a worn 0.035-inch orifice will mist where it should foam.
  • Water staining around the air handler cabinet. The coil cleaning process should not produce standing water. A cracked vacuum recovery hose on the Nikro unit, or a failed float switch in the recovery tank, leaves water in the plenum. We photograph the cabinet interior before quoting; the stain pattern tells us where the leak originated.
  • System short-cycling after a cleaning. If the coil was damaged during service, bent fins restrict airflow enough to trip high-pressure limits. Nikro’s wands are metal; an inexperienced operator can force the wand through the coil rather than between fins. Our photo record documents fin condition before we start, so there’s no dispute about what existed prior.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Component The Woodlands Price Range
Nikro coil cleaning (standard accessibility, single system) $340 - $480
Nikro coil cleaning (attic or crawlspace access, tight quarters) $480 - $620
OEM foaming head / wand replacement (if damaged) $85 - $140 parts + labor
Aftermarket Guardsman equivalent $45 - $80 parts + labor
Deep contamination (visible mold, heavy construction dust) Add $120 - $180

The range depends on three factors we assess during our free inspection: coil location (attic units in Sterling Ridge take longer than closet units in Alden Bridge), contamination type (construction dust from recent renovation vs. standard household load), and whether the coil needs removal for cleaning or can be serviced in place. We deliver a written price before any work starts, Haven Standard Clause 1. That price includes the full cleaning, photographic documentation of the coil before and after, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If airflow does not improve measurably, we return and correct it.

DIY or Call Us?

There is no electrical danger in coil cleaning itself, but there is a real risk of damaging a $1,200 evaporator coil with a hardware-store foaming can and a stiff brush. The fins are aluminum, 14-16 per inch, and bend permanently with moderate pressure. Once flattened, airflow is restricted until the coil is replaced.

What you can safely check: the air filter, the condensate drain line for blockage, and whether the outdoor unit’s fan is running. What goes wrong with DIY coil cleaning: over-saturating the coil and flooding the drain pan, using a cleaner incompatible with aluminum (some bathroom degreasers etch the metal), or forcing tools between fins instead of along them. We carry borescope cameras to inspect the coil without disassembly; most homeowners do not. If you’ve already attempted cleaning and the symptoms persist, the coil may need professional extraction and straightening.
